Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar has arrived in Dhaka. He landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2.00pm on Saturday (August 23) on a special flight and was welcomed by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam.

This is the first visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to Bangladesh in almost 13 years. According to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit marks an important milestone in bilateral relations.

On the first day of his visit, Ishaq Dar will join a reception organized by the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka in the evening. During the event, he will also hold separate meetings with Bangladeshi academics, politicians, and civil society representatives.

On Sunday, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister will meet with Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain. The meeting will start with a one-on-one discussion, followed by delegation-level talks. Afterward, five to six agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed, covering trade, investment, connectivity, and facilitating people-to-people exchanges.

Later in the afternoon, Ishaq Dar will pay a courtesy visit to Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. During his trip, he is also scheduled to meet BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and hold discussions with leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami.
