Police have recovered the body of a Pakistani national, Mohammad Shahbaz (26), hanging inside a flat in South Banasree in the capital. Police initially suspect he may have died by suicide out of despair over debt and a domestic dispute with his wife.

The body was recovered around 8:30 am on Tuesday (October 20) from a flat in house no. 38, Block F, Road 9/5, South Banasree.

Mohsin Al Murad, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the Khilgaon zone, said Shahbaz lived in Bangladesh. He was in debt and had been at odds with his wife over the matter. Police initially believe these factors may have driven him to suicide.

According to police, the building's guard saw Shahbaz hanging inside the flat on Tuesday morning and informed the police. Khilgaon Police Station personnel went to the scene, broke down the door and recovered the body.

Shahbaz was then taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the doctor on duty declared him dead at 10:50 am. The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Shahbaz's father's name is Nazir Ahmed. His home is in Chah Ghulam Mohammad village under Jalalpur police station in Multan district of Pakistan. He was a businessman by profession.

*Note: The source says police "broke the door" before recovering the body, but also that the guard saw him hanging inside. You may want to confirm how the guard saw him, and whether the time of the guard's discovery is available, before publishing.*
