Former Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak and former Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam have been shown arrested in two separate high-profile cases following the fall of the previous government.
Palak was shown arrested in an attempted murder case filed over an incident during the July 2024 mass movement.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order on Monday (August 25) after the investigation officer SI Md. Shah Alam requested that he should be officially shown arrested.
Earlier, Palak was produced before the court in a prison van.
According to the case filed at Kafrul Police Station, a protester named Abdul Alim was shot in the eye near the SOS Hermann Meiner College gate in Mirpur on July 19. Alim filed the case on April 1 after receiving treatment. Palak was arrested on August 14.

The case accuses him and 19 others, including Sheikh Hasina and election officials from the 10th to 12th parliamentary elections, of treason, electoral fraud, and violating the constitution.
The case, filed by BNP executive committee member Salah Uddin Khan on June 22, alleges illegal interference in national elections, misuse of state machinery, and falsely declaring results in favor of ruling party candidates. Jahangir was arrested on October 1.
Defense lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi stated that 77 cases have been filed against Palak and 13 against Jahangir to date.
