Panchagarh shivers as mild cold wave drops temp to 9.5°C
Panchagarh, a northern district of Bangladesh, has been enduring a mild cold wave for the past two days, with temperatures dropping to 9.5° celsius and a chilling breeze sweeping across the region, driven by icy winds from the Himalayas.
Additionally, the district has been covered in fog, blocking the sunlight and intensifying the cold discomfort.
The Meteorological Office reported that the temperature in Panchagarh dropped to 9.5°C at 9:00am on Wednesday, January 15, following a similar reading of 9.4°C on Tuesday, January 14.
Jitendranath, officer-in-charge of the first-class Tentulia Meteorological Observatory, confirmed the cold wave, saying, "The temperature has remained around 9 degrees Celsius for the past two days, with a mild cold wave blowing over the region."
The harsh cold has driven many residents to stay indoors to escape the biting temperatures, while low-income individuals have been compelled to go out in search of work and daily wages. Many locals are experiencing health issues due to the cold, with reports of fevers, colds, breathing difficulties, and other ailments affecting families. The struggle to earn an income, along with the difficulty of affording medical treatment, is further compounding their hardships.
Farmers and rural families are also struggling to protect their livestock from the intense cold. Many are using old clothes or burlap sacks to shield their animals from the harsh weather.
