Panchagarh shivers as temperature drops below 10°C
Panchagarh, the northernmost Himachal district of the country, has been hit by a mild cold wave, with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius.
Border town residents are enduring severe cold due to the ongoing cold wave, with many low-income individuals struggling due to a lack of proper winter clothing. To cope, they are resorting to burning straw for warmth.
On Saturday (December 14), the temperature at 6.00am was recorded at 9.4 degrees Celsius, while the same time on Friday (December 13) recoded a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius.
Ice and dew fell throughout the night, and the chilly air is overwhelming the people. After 9.00pm, market activity slows down. Despite the cold, daily wage workers, stone workers, tea workers, farmers, and others continue to work for their livelihood.
Jitendra Nath, officer-in-charge of the district's first class Tentulia Meteorological Observatory office, said, "Similar to yesterday, today's temperature is below 10 degrees. A temperature between 8 and 10 degrees is classified as a mild cold wave, and the northern region is enduring a chilly winter at this temperature."
