With an aim to reduce the pressure on the roads and increase river transportation of cargos, initiatives will be taken to turn Pangaon Port into a more profitable venture.

Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman told this to reporters after visiting the port on Saturday (March 16).

He said that the handling problem of the port will be resolved within the next month. If more cargo arrives at the port, workers will get more work. Then their problem will be solved. The government is working to ensure that more cargo comes to the port.

Salman F Rahman said, “Today, we have identified the problems of the port and we hope to solve them soon.”

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and senior officials of the port were present at the time.

Mentionable, Pangaon Port is an inland port and container terminal on the Buriganga River in Dhaka. The terminal has a storage capacity of 3,500 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers, and it can handle 116,000 TEU containers annually.
