Parliament galleries renamed after seven Bir Sreshtho
The galleries of the National Parliament have been renamed after the seven Bir Sreshtho, the highest recipients of gallantry awards for their supreme sacrifice in Bangladesh's Liberation War. The initiative has been taken to honour and express profound respect and gratitude to the nation's greatest sons and to preserve their memories for posterity.
New nameplates installed inside the Parliament building now bear the names of the seven Bir Sreshthos. The galleries are now named after Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir, Sepoy Hamidur Rahman, Sepoy Mostafa Kamal, Lance Naik Nur Mohammad Sheikh, Engine Room Artificer Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman, and Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rouf.
Previously, the galleries were designated based on general or geographical criteria. Following the renaming, every gallery of the Parliament building is now connected to the glorious history of the Liberation War.
Those concerned believe this initiative will play an important role in conveying the spirit of the Liberation War to the new generation. Additionally, it will further strengthen the sense of respect for the heroes of the nation's independence struggle among visitors to parliament.
Analysts say that through the installation of these nameplates in the National Parliament, the history of the Liberation War has been made more visible and institutionally preserved.
