Passenger bus falls into ditch in Brahmanbaria, 10 injured
A passenger bus lost control and fell into a ditch on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bijoynagar, Brahmanbaria, leaving at least 10 people injured. The accident occurred around 2am on Monday night (August 10) in the Rampur area of the upazila.
Locals and highway police said the Hanif Transport bus, bound for Hazrat Shahjalal (R.) shrine in Sylhet from Narsingdi, lost control upon reaching Rampur and plunged into the roadside ditch.
After receiving the news, police from Sarail Khatihata Highway Police Station and a fire service team arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. With help from locals, passengers trapped inside the bus were pulled out after nearly an hour of effort.
The injured were taken to Sarail Upazila Health Complex and Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex in Habiganj for treatment. Their names, identities and the extent of their injuries were not immediately known.
Khatihata Highway Police Station Officer-in-Chief Abu Taher Dewan said the accident bus has been recovered. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for about half an hour during the rescue operation.
