A passenger bus has reportedly fallen into the Padma River after losing control at Daulatdia ferry terminal in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari.

The incident took place around 9:00am at Ferry Ghat No. 7 on Friday morning (June 5), officials said.

The bus, operated by SB Paribahan, was travelling from Kushtia to Dhaka when it lost control and plunged into the river from the pontoon while passengers were reportedly being disembarked, according to officials.

Assistant General Manager of BIWTC Daulatdia terminal office Mohammad Salahuddin confirmed the incident, saying the bus fell into the river around 9:30am.

He added that no casualties had been reported immediately after the accident.

Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Afroza Parvin said she was en route to the scene following reports of the incident.

Authorities suspect that passengers may have already been offloaded at the time of the accident, though confirmation is yet to be made.

The Daulatdia ferry terminal has witnessed similar deadly incidents in the past. In a major accident on March 25, a passenger bus fell into the Padma River while attempting to board a ferry, killing 26 people after rescue operations recovered their bodies.
