Passenger bus plunges into pond in Rangpur, 2 dead

A passenger bus lost control and plunged into a pond in Pirgacha Upazila early Thursday, leaving two dead, including a child, and injuring at least 15 others.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. near Beltola Bazar on Deuti Road. The bus was returning from a wedding ceremony in Beltoli area of Sundarganj, Gaibandha, carrying approximately 35 to 40 passengers headed to Nozirerhat in Rangpur city.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control as the bus reached Beltola Bazar, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a nearby pond. Local residents and fire service personnel promptly recovered the bodies of two victims and rescued the injured.

Al-Amin, in-charge of Pirgacha Fire Service, confirmed the injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. The identities of the deceased and injured remain unconfirmed.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
