At least 20 passengers were injured when a passenger bus lost control and fell into a ditch in Bhanga, Faridpur. The accident occurred around 3:45pm on Sunday on the Faridpur-Bhanga-Barishal highway in the Bablatola area.
Upon receiving the news, locals, fire service personnel and highway police reached the spot and rescued the injured, sending them to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
Bhanga Fire Service Station Officer Abu Zafar confirmed the matter. He said a passenger bus skidded off the road due to rain and fell into a ditch. Around 8 to 10 people have been rescued and taken to the upazila health complex so far. Rescue operations are currently ongoing at the scene.
Eyewitnesses and several injured passengers said the bus was heading to Barishal from Dhaka's Dholaipar when it lost control and fell into a ditch upon reaching the Bablatola area of Bhanga.
Injured passengers Debashish and Khalek, among others, said that just minutes before the accident, passengers repeatedly urged the driver to drive carefully, but he did not heed their requests. Subsequently, due to rain making the road slippery, the bus lost control and fell into the ditch. While the passengers survived, several children are in critical condition.
