Patient dies after falling from fifth floor of Sylhet Osmani Hospital

A patient undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital died after falling from the fifth floor of the hospital’s new building on Thursday morning (August 13).

The incident took place at around 8:00am on Thursday (August 13), according to police.

The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain, 28, son of Khowaj Ali of Jagannathpur upazila in Sunamganj.

Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector Anwarul Islam, in-charge of the police outpost at Osmani Hospital, said Alamgir had been admitted to the hospital on August 11 and was receiving treatment at Ward 33 on the fifth floor of the new building.

According to police, Alamgir fell through an open space beside the staircase on Thursday morning. He died at the scene from the fall.

Hospital staff and police later recovered the body and sent it to the Osmani Medical College morgue for autopsy.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
