Patuakhali man sued over giving death threat to CA Yunus

A case has been filed against a man in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district, for giving threat of killing, publishing unintended slander with the intention of defaming reputation of interim government chief advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Ashish Roy of Kalapara Chowki Court on Thursday took into account the allegation and ordered the officer-in-charge of Kalapara Police Station to register the case of the plaintiff.

Hafizur Rahman Chunnu, bench assistant of the court, confirmed the matter.

Court sources said Hasan Mahmud of East Madhukhali village of Mithaganj Union of Upazila, as plaintiff has filed this case under section 307, 499, 506 (b) of the Penal Code against Masum Billah of the same village, working as points-man of Bangladesh Railway Division.

In the case it is said that on May 2, when Dr Muhammad Yunus came out of the court after appearing in a case, he gave satisfactory answers of the questions of various print and electronic media reporters.

Various TV channels including Somoy TV, posted videos of the program.
The defendant also shared the video and wrote “You look like an agent of America.”

He also reportedly threatened to shoot Muhammad Yunus if he found him alone.
Meanwhile, the defendant in the case Masum Billah told the media: “The plaintiff Hasan Mahmud is son of my cousin. He filed the case against me on a fictitious issue to harass me over the recruitment dispute at a local school.”
