Pedestrian killed after being hit by speeding vehicle in Jatrabari

An unidentified man, aged around 40, was killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle in the capital's Jatrabari area early Wednesday (August 26).

The man was found critically injured on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway near Baspatti in Jatrabari and was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 5:15am, where doctors declared him dead.

Jatrabari police Sub-Inspector Jewel Rana said police found the man lying injured at the scene around 3:30am after receiving information about the accident.

According to local witnesses, the man was crossing the road when an unidentified speeding vehicle struck him before fleeing the scene.

Police have yet to identify the victim. SI Jewel said investigators were working to establish his identity with the help of technology, while the CID crime scene unit had been notified.

The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy, police said.
