Pedestrian stabbed in Karwan Bazar, attacker caught and beaten

A pedestrian has been stabbed under the metro rail station in Karwan Bazar in the capital. Despite being bloodied in the stabbing, the man managed to catch the attacker. He was later beaten by several people. The incident took place around 3pm on Thursday, September 24.

Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter and said the injured pedestrian's name is Akter Hossain. His home is in Chandpur, and he lives in the Tejgaon area. The person detained in the stabbing incident is Mazharul Islam. His home is in the Sherpur area of Mymensingh, and he lives in Panthapath in Dhaka.

Police said after Akter Hossain was stabbed, he caught the attacker at the scene. Later, Akter and several other pedestrians beat up Mazharul. Upon receiving the news, police went to the scene and detained Mazharul. The injured Akter was taken to hospital. Police said he is currently out of danger.

OC Md Moniruzzaman said the two individuals knew each other previously. The detained Mazharul appeared to be a drug user. It is primarily believed that Akter was stabbed at one point during an altercation. Later, Akter and other pedestrians beat up Mazharul.

A video of the incident has spread on social media. It shows Akter, in a bloodied state, punching and kicking a person. There were blood stains on his body and clothes, and marks of sharp weapon injuries are visible on his back. Several others can be seen beating the person.

In the video, several people nearby can be heard saying that Akter was stabbed during a mugging. However, police have not primarily confirmed the incident as a mugging.

The Tejgaon Police Station OC said a preliminary investigation into the incident is underway. After the investigation, legal action will be taken after confirming the actual incident and the reason for the stabbing.
