People of 50 villages in Sariatpur to celebrate Eid on Friday

The people of about 50 villages of Shariatpur will celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday (March 20) in accordance with Saudi Arabia.

The followers of Sureshwar Darbar Sharif have been performing this tradition for about 150 years and have been observing fasting and Eid a day earlier.

Pir Syed Belal Noori, the head of Sureshwar Darbar Sharif in Naria upazila, confirmed this information on Thursday (March 19) morning.

Sufi saint Jan Sharif Shah Sureshwari established this darbar. His followers started observing fasting and Eid a day earlier in line with the Middle East since 1928, which is still ongoing.

About 40,000 devotees from about 50 villages spread across the district, including Sureshwar, Kedarpur, Chakdh, Chandipur and Dakshin Daragarh in Bhedarganj upazila, will participate in the Eid celebrations on Friday.

Two Eid congregations will be held at Sureshwar Darbar Sharif. These congregations are scheduled to be held at 9:30 am on the designated grounds of the Darbar. Syed Belal Noori Al Sureshwari and Maulana Md. Julhas Uddin will lead the congregation.
