People of all classes flock to Shaheed Minar to pay homage
Today is the 21st of February, the 'Shaheed Dibash' (Martyrs Day) and the International Mother Language Day. On the occasion of the day, a large number of people gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar with flower bouquets to pay deep respect to the language martyrs. The number of people paying tribute is increasing with time.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina led the nation to pay respect to language martyrs by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar beside Dhaka Medical College and Hospital at one minute past zero hour. After that, Cabinet members, senior leaders of Awami League, Speaker-Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad, heads of three armed forces, inspector general of police, ambassadors and high commissioners of various countries, heads of various international organizations, war victims laid wreaths at Shaheed Minar. Later, Shaheed Minar was opened for people of all walks of life.
Ahsan Ullah, a student of class four, and his younger sister Nabiha Islam Tareen came to Shaheed Minar with their father to pay respect to the martyrs. Ahsan Ullah told the media, "I am here for the second time and my sister has come to Shaheed Minar for the first time. We are here to pay our respects to the martyrs. We are very happy to come to Shaheed Minar."
Md Alvi, who came from Badda Link Road, said, "For the first time, I came with my father to Shaheed Minar to pay respect to the martyrs."
