BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the people of Bangladesh have regained their voting rights, with the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election scheduled to be held on February 12 next year.

He made the remarks after submitting his nomination papers at the Thakurgaon deputy commissioner’s office on Monday (December 29).

Mirza Fakhrul said he has been nominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party to contest from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency in the upcoming election. He expressed gratitude to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for once again entrusting him with the nomination.

“If I am elected with the love and support of the people, I will work for the overall development of Thakurgaon,” he said, outlining priorities that include improving educational institutions, strengthening the social environment, enhancing socio-economic conditions and expanding economic activities. He also pledged to focus on job creation and addressing farmers’ problems.

Calling on voters in the constituency, Mirza Fakhrul urged them to support him as they had in the past by casting their votes for the BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol.
