People of Bangladesh will not easily vote for you, Fakhrul tells Jamaat
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that although the people of Bangladesh are religious, they are neither fanatical nor communal.
He said, “In the last election, Jamaat-e-Islami received only five to six per cent votes. Don’t think that you will suddenly jump to 51 percent. The people of Bangladesh will not easily vote for you, because they do not trust you.”
He made the remarks on Saturday, November 15, at a public rally at the Nawabganj Government College field in Chapainawabganj.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Muslims led the Pakistan movement — it was a movement to protect their interests. But your leader Maududi opposed that movement. In 1971, when we fought for independence, you not only opposed it, you participated in genocide with the Pakistan Army. As a freedom fighter, I have no hesitation in saying this. You cannot humiliate us by spreading nonsense on social media.”
He said the Chief Adviser has announced that the election will be held in the first half of February 2026. He insisted there is no alternative to holding the election on time. “The more the election is delayed, the weaker Bangladesh becomes. No government can run the country successfully without public support.”
Addressing Jamaat, the BNP leader said, “We are clearly telling you — act responsibly. Election preparations have been going on for a long time. Why are you fooling the people? I have seen more billboards from your party than any other. More posters from your party than anyone else. Then why are you misleading the public? You will certainly contest the election. Without participating, your existence will vanish. And you want to delay the election because you know you will lose.”
