BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan has said that the people of Bangladesh expect Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to ensure the earliest possible national election and then step down with dignity.

Speaking to Reuters on 22 May, Moyeen responded to reports suggesting that Yunus is considering resignation amid the ongoing political crisis. He called for an official statement from the Chief Adviser’s office to clarify the growing speculation.

“I would say the sincere wish of the Bangladeshi people is that Dr. Yunus departs with dignity—after honoring the public’s trust by organizing a free and fair election without delay,” said the BNP leader.

His remarks followed a statement from National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, who said that Yunus was struggling to carry out his duties due to a lack of consensus among political parties.

After meeting with Yunus, Nahid told BBC Bangla that the Chief Adviser had expressed concerns over his ability to continue in the role under the current political climate.
