Pet dog killed in Pabna over goat attack claim; owner seeks justice
A pet dog has been beaten to death with a sharp weapon in Chatmohar, Pabna, over allegations of biting goats. The accused has also threatened to kill two more dogs, according to the dog's owner.
The incident occurred on Friday morning in the Agshoyil village of Haripur union in the upazila. Upon receiving the news, the upazila livestock officer visited the scene and recovered the dog's body for autopsy. The owner is preparing to file a written complaint with the police station.
The dog's owner, farmer Solyaman Pramanik, claimed the dog was his pet. The accused, Naim Hossain, is the son of Rashedul Islam from the same village.
Solyaman Pramanik said he was not at home at the time of the incident but working in the field. Upon returning home, he found the dog dead. He later learned from his mother that Naim had killed the dog by striking it with a shovel.
He said the dog was his beloved pet. He has informed the upazila livestock officer and police and demanded justice for the killing.
In response, Naim Hossain said the dog had bitten several of his goats on Thursday and had also attacked goats and chickens in neighbouring houses. He claimed the dog had made it difficult to raise livestock in the area.
He said he killed the dog with a shovel on Friday out of frustration. Naim also threatened to kill two more dogs in the area, adding that if they were pets, their owners should have kept them tied up.
Chatmohar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Swapan Kumar Sarkar said he visited the scene after receiving the news. The body was recovered and taken to his office for autopsy. Preliminary findings suggest the dog died from lung injuries and severe bleeding caused by blows to the ribs with a sharp weapon. The autopsy report will be handed over to police if a case is filed.
Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Oliur Rahman said he learned of the incident verbally in the morning and informed the livestock department. The dog's owner is filing a written complaint. After receiving the complaint, a case will be registered and legal action will be taken through investigation.
