Pharmacist dies in crash while checking on flood-hit friend

A pharmacist lost his life in a road accident while travelling to check on a friend affected by the recent floods in Pekua, Cox's Bazar. He lost control of his motorcycle on a rain-slicked road and fell into a canal, sustaining critical injuries. He died on the way to hospital.

The deceased, Manik Uddin Nahid, 25, was the son of Moktar Ahmed from Sonaichhari Newpara, Ward 7 of Taitong union in the upazila. He ran a pharmacy near Pekua General Hospital.

The accident occurred around 11:30 pm on Tuesday, July 14, on the ABC regional highway in the Sikderpara area of the upazila.

According to local sources, Nahid set out from Pekua Bazaar on a motorcycle for Nandirpara on Tuesday night to check on a friend affected by the recent floods. Upon reaching the Sikderpara area, he lost control of his motorcycle on the rain-slicked road and fell into a canal. He and another motorcycle rider were injured.

Witnesses said locals rescued a critically injured Nahid and took him to Pekua Upazila Health Complex. After primary treatment, he was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced care. However, he died on the way to the hospital.

Pekua Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mujibur Rahman said, "A person seriously injured in a motorcycle accident was given primary treatment and referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. He had severe bleeding from his nose and ears."

Pekua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mehedi Hasan said, "We have been informed about the death of a young man in a motorcycle accident. The motorcycle involved has been seized."
