India's West Bengal Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested Philip Sangma on charges of helping the accused in the murder case of Inquilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi to flee.
He was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, March 14, from an area adjacent to Shantipur Bypass in Nadia. Earlier, STF had arrested Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain, accused in the Hadi murder case.
The West Bengal police authorities have formally informed the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Kolkata about the detention of Philip Sangma, a resident of Mymensingh.
In a press release, the West Bengal state police said STF arrested Philip Sangma following an operation based on secret information.
During preliminary interrogation, Philip Sangma confessed that he had helped Faisal Karim and Alamgir Hossain enter India through the Meghalaya border. He later also entered India illegally to evade arrest in Bangladesh.
