Physically challenged man beaten to death over snatching allegation
A Physically challenged man was beaten to death by a group of people, including a truck driver and his assistant, in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj, after being suspected of snatching. The incident occurred late Saturday night in the Ailpara area.
The victim, Sajjad Hossain, 30, was a resident of Nayapara in Adamjinagar and the son of Kamal Hossain. According to police reports, Sajjad allegedly threw a stone at a cargo truck belonging to Crown Cement, breaking its windshield as it exited a local factory. Mistaking him for a snatcher, the truck driver, his helper, and several bystanders reportedly apprehended Sajjad and beat him severely. He died on the spot.
Eyewitness Habib told reporters that he saw the driver and helper dragging Sajjad along the road. Although a few people tried to intervene, their pleas were ignored. Habib later learned of Sajjad’s death the following morning.
Law enforcement has since detained 10 individuals for questioning in connection with the incident. During the arrests, local residents reportedly attacked police officers, escalating tensions in the area. Additional police forces were deployed to restore order.
Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Alam confirmed that the victim’s body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
