The Press Information Department has called upon registered media outlets to strictly adhere to prescribed rules and regulations, warning that failure to do so will compel the government to take legal action.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 15, PID said it is the media's duty to verify facts, ensure professional responsibility, and conduct fact-checking before publishing any news.

The statement urged all media outlets—including newspapers, television, radio, online news portals, digital editions of dailies, and IPTV—to comply with their declarations and registration policies.

It noted that some registered media outlets have recently been publishing false information, misinformation, AI-generated images, and misleading content, causing public confusion. Such activities are contrary to the principles of objective journalism. Some outlets have already acknowledged errors and published corrections.

PID believes that many media outlets are falling victim to misinformation by using unreliable sources, including social media. The department urged all outlets to remain vigilant and cautious when using anonymous, fake or unregistered platforms as sources.
