'Pilot crashed through tin roof of Milestone office'

Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam, pilot of the crashed Air Force F-7 BGI fighter jet, survived by parachuting but fell through the tin roof of the office of Nasir Uddin, a physical education teacher at Milestone School and College.

Nasir Uddin told BBC Bangla on Wednesday (July 23) that after the crash, he found his office desk completely smashed. Looking up, he saw the pilot’s parachute and realized someone had landed inside the office. With the help of Air Force personnel, the injured pilot was discovered lying in a corner of the room beneath the broken roof and was promptly rescued.

The FT-7BGI aircraft took off at 1:06 PM on Monday (July 21) but crashed just 12 minutes later at 1:18 PM. The plane struck a building at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, causing a massive explosion and fire that rapidly spread to several classrooms.

The tragic accident claimed the lives of 32 people, including students and teachers. Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam also died in the crash.
