Pirate leader nabbed after escape from CMCH
Police have re-arrested pirate Sardar Rafiq Ullah, who had escaped from police custody while receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Rafiq was arrested during a raid conducted by Panchlaish Thana police at 7:00pm on Thursday (April 17) at the house of Asad Fakir in Bainyakhali Ward No. 2 of Sadar Union, Pekua Upazila, Cox's Bazar, confirmed Mohammad Solaiman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station.
Earlier, on April 16, after receiving clearance from the hospital authorities, Rafiq escaped from the Orthopedic and Traumatology Department of CMCH in the afternoon, dodging the attention of two police constables.
The arrested Rafiq Ullah, 34, is the son of Mofizur Rahman Moju Boli from the Kalarma Nonabari area of Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar. He is facing 13 cases at the Maheshkhali Police Station.
"Pirate Rafiq Ullah was sent to Chattogram Central Jail following his arrest in connection with weapons case in Maheshkhali. Due to illness, he was undergoing treatment at the Orthopaedics Ortho Surgery Block of CHMEC Hospital from March 23 to April 15. On April 16, after receiving clearance certificate from the hospital's Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department, he escaped evading the attention of two police constables Md abdul and Md Mamun," the OC said.
"Following a case filed at Panchlaish Police Station in this incident, a team from Panchlaish Police Station conducted a raid in Pekua of Cox's Bazar district and re-arrested Rafiq Ullah. He is being sent to court today," he added.
