Training Aircraft crash in Uttara: Death toll rises to 19

Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal, Director General of the Fire Service, confirmed that the death toll from the crash has reached 19. According to Lima Khanum, the duty officer at the control room, one person died at the scene, and four injured individuals were airlifted by Bangladesh Air Force helicopters to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).


Meanwhile the tragic accident has claimed the life of trainee student Md. Junayet Hasan. He succumbed to his injuries at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. The hospital authorities are currently trying to contact the guardians of this third-grade student (code 2066).

Among the 18 other deceased is Squadron Leader Toukir Islam Sagar, the pilot of the F-7 BGI training aircraft. Over 150 people were injured in the accident, the majority of whom are students of Milestone School.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) office reported that at 1:24 PM on Monday, July 21, the Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed into a building on the Milestone School and College campus, causing a fire. The aircraft had taken off at 1:06 PM, 18 minutes before the crash.

Currently, 70 injured people are receiving treatment in various hospitals. Of these, 50 critical burn patients have been admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. Director Dr. Nasir Uddin noted that most of the patients are students of Milestone, suffering from severe burns.

Four injured individuals are being treated at CMH. Another 16 patients were admitted to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Uttara Modern Medical College Hospital, Kuwait Maitree Hospital, Uttara Women’s Medical College Hospital, and Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital.

Rescue and investigation operations are ongoing, involving 10 units of the Fire Service, the Army, the Air Force, and other law enforcement agencies.

The incident caused panic among students, guardians, and local residents. Numerous guardians gathered at hospitals and the college campus searching for their children.

By 3:30 PM, the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute had registered 28 burn victims, including Shamim Yusuf (14), Mahin (15), Abid (17), Rafi Barua (21), Sayem (12), Sayem Yusuf (14), Muntaha (11), Nafi, Meherin (12), Ayman (10), Zaina (13), Imon (17), Rohan (14), Abid (9), Ashraf (37), Yusha (11), Payel (12), Albera (10), Tasmiya (15), Mahia, Ayan (14), Foyaz (14), Masuma (38), Mahata (14), Shamim, Zakir (55), Niloy (14), and Samiya.

Shah Bulbul, Public Relations Officer of Milestone College, stated that the plane struck a classroom next to the school branch canteen, destroying it. He added that security forces have cordoned off the area, and college officials are not permitted to enter the crash site.
