Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced the introduction of an ‘LPG Card’ for women, expanding social support initiatives alongside existing family and agriculture cards.

The announcement came on Monday (April 27) while inaugurating the Ulshi canal re-excavation project at Sharsha in Jashore.

The prime minister said the scheme aims to ensure easier access to LPG gas for women, particularly in household cooking, reducing physical hardship for mothers and female family members.

He added that the initiative will complement ongoing efforts to distribute family cards to general and women-led households nationwide.

Highlighting women’s empowerment, Rahman also outlined plans to expand free education for female students up to the degree level, building on earlier policies that introduced free education for girls at school and intermediate stages. Stipends for meritorious students are also under consideration.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting women-led households through phased distribution of welfare cards across rural areas.

The prime minister further noted that financial allowances for religious leaders, including imams, khatibs and representatives of other faiths, have already been introduced as part of broader social support measures.
