PM arrives in Sylhet on daylong official visit
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Sylhet on Saturday morning (May 2) on a daylong official visit.
A special flight carrying the prime minister landed at Osmani International Airport at around 10:00am, confirmed his Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman.
He was received at the airport by Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Labour and Expatriates Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, and Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Kaiyum Chowdhury, along with senior civil and administrative officials.
According to the itinerary, the prime minister will first visit the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal, followed by a visit to the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran at Khadimnagar.
He will later lay the foundation stone of a Sylhet City Corporation project aimed at addressing waterlogging at Chandni Ghat and attend a civic gathering. The prime minister will then inaugurate the Baisha River re-excavation programme in Kashipur union under Sylhet Sadar upazila.
In the afternoon, he will attend Friday prayers and lunch at the Circuit House before inaugurating the “Notun Kuri Sports-2026” programme at Sylhet Stadium at 3:00pm. The initiative aims to identify and promote young sporting talent at the district level.
He is scheduled to conclude his engagements with a party rally at the District Shilpakala Academy grounds at 5:00pm before returning to Dhaka later in the evening.
Authorities have tightened security across Sylhet ahead of the visit, while party activists have expressed enthusiasm over the prime minister’s programme.
