Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has attended the opening ceremony of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The session began at the UN headquarters on Tuesday, September 22, in the morning local time of New York. Other senior members of the Bangladesh delegation were present with the Prime Minister at the opening ceremony. Heads of state and government of various countries and their representatives participated in it. Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, along with his wife, attended the traditional welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in honour of world leaders at the UN headquarters.

জাতিসংঘ সাধারণ পরিষদের ৮১ তম অধিবেশনের উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দিয়েছেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমান। মঙ্গলবার যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সময় সকাল ৯টায় জাতিসংঘ সদর দপ্তরের ‘নর্থ ডেলিগেটস লাউঞ্জ’-এ সহধর্মিণী ডা. জুবাইদা রহমানকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে তিনি এই অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দেন। প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সহকারী প্রেস সচিব নাজমুল হক বাসস’কে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছেন। জাতিসংঘ সাধারণ পরিষদের ৮১ তম অধিবেশনের সভাপতি এবং বাংলাদেশের পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ড. খলিলুর রহমানের সভাপতিত্বে উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে জাতিসংঘ মহাসচিব আন্তোনিও গুতেরেস বক্তব্য রাখেন। অধিবেশনস্থলে পৌঁছালে প্রধানমন্ত্রীকে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে স্বাগত জানানো হয়। বিশ্বনেতাদের সঙ্গে মর্যাদাপূর্ণ এই বৈশ্বিক ফোরামের উচ্চপর্যায়ের আলোচনায় অংশ নেন তিনি। এ ছাড়া তিনি সাধারণ পরিষদের সাধারণ বিতর্কে (জেনারেল ডিবেট) বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে ভাষণ দেবেন। বক্তব্যে তিনি বিশ্ব শান্তিরক্ষা, জলবায়ু ন্যায়বিচার এবং বাংলাদেশের সাম্প্রতিক আর্থসামাজিক উন্নয়নের চিত্র তুলে ধরবেন। উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে অন্যান্যের মধ্যে পররাষ্ট্র প্রতিমন্ত্রী হুমায়ুন কবির, শামা ওবায়েদ, প্রধানমন্ত্রীর কার্যালয়ের মুখপাত্র মাহদী আমিনসহ সরকারের উচ্চপদস্থ কর্মকর্তা এবং জাতিসংঘে বাংলাদেশের স্থায়ী প্রতিনিধি উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
