PM hints at support for England in World Cup

Although he did not directly name his favorite team in the World Cup, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has hinted at support for England.

He made this hint in response to a journalist's question during an exchange of views with BNP BIT journalists at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center on Tuesday afternoon.

The Prime Minister had a question - the World Cup is underway, Bangladesh is also floating in the tide of this World Cup. Which country do you support?

In response, the Prime Minister did not answer directly and said, 'I have been in one country for a long time, you understand.' Later, he added with a smile, 'Have you got your answer?'

In September 2008, Tarique Rahman went to London for treatment with his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman after obtaining bail from the Supreme Court. After living in exile for more than 17 years, he returned to his homeland with his family on December 25, 2025.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at the Estadio Azteca stadium in Mexico City on June 11. The 39-day tournament, featuring a record 48 teams, will conclude with the final in New York on July 19. England will face Croatia in the first group stage match on June 18 at 2am.
