PM holds meeting with UN Secretary-General

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has held a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The meeting was held on the 27th floor of the Secretariat Building at the UN headquarters in New York after noon local time on Thursday, September 24.

Assistant Press Secretary to the Prime Minister KM Nazmul Haque said the meeting discussed cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations, various important global and regional issues, and various issues of mutual interest.

At the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on various matters, including Bangladesh's development progress, tackling the impacts of climate change, a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis and Bangladesh's continued contribution to the UN's peace, security and development activities.

The Assistant Press Secretary said the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the UN's cooperation and support on Bangladesh's priorities and matters of national interest. He reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to multilateralism, international cooperation and the goals of peace and sustainable development.

In response, the UN Secretary-General emphasised further advancing the long-standing cooperative relationship between the United Nations and Bangladesh.

At the meeting, both sides expressed their determination to continue mutual cooperation and work closely to tackle common global challenges.
