Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on local and foreign investors to expand their investments in Bangladesh, reaffirming the government's commitment to creating a business-friendly environment as the country targets becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2034.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) FDI Conference 2026 titled "Accelerating Foreign Investment for Jobs and Prosperity in Bangladesh" on Thursday (July 23), the prime minister said the government would remain a long-term partner for investors by ensuring policy continuity, institutional support and a stable investment climate.

He praised domestic and foreign investors for their contributions to job creation, technology transfer, stronger global supply chains and Bangladesh's economic growth, describing them as key partners in the country's development journey.

Drawing on his own business experience, Tarique said business success depends not only on entrepreneurial skills but also on pro-growth government policies. He assured investors that Bangladesh would provide timely policy support and necessary institutional assistance to facilitate business expansion.

Despite existing challenges, the prime minister said Bangladesh offers immense opportunities, citing its rapidly expanding domestic market, young and skilled workforce, strategic geographic location and representative government as major competitive advantages.

He reiterated the government's vision of building a rules-based, globally integrated and private sector-led economy, adding that several reforms are underway to improve the investment climate.

According to Tarique Rahman, the government is strengthening legal protection for investments, simplifying tax and VAT administration, easing profit repatriation, modernising infrastructure, enhancing dispute resolution mechanisms, digitalising public services and reducing bureaucratic complexities.

He also highlighted priority sectors receiving policy incentives, including renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, electronics, digital services, agro-processing, advanced textiles, healthcare and logistics. The government, he said, is also focusing on transforming Bangladesh into a global manufacturing hub while promoting diversification in the garment industry and developing a technology-driven skilled workforce.

Concluding his remarks, the prime minister urged investors to become long-term partners in Bangladesh's development, saying sustainable growth depends not only on attracting investment but also on building enduring partnerships that generate employment and drive inclusive economic prosperity.
