PM Tarique Rahman meets Malaysia's King in Kuala Lumpur
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman met with Malaysia's King, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, and Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah at the Istana Negara on Monday, June 22.
According to Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon, the meeting was a symbolic step towards further strengthening the existing friendly relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier in the day, a high-level bilateral meeting was held between the prime ministers of Bangladesh and Malaysia in Putrajaya. Following that, Tarique Rahman paid a courtesy call on the Malaysian King. The meeting discussed strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade and investment, and issues of mutual interest, as well as enhancing cooperation in regional and international forums.
Sultan Ibrahim was installed as the 17th King of Malaysia on January 31, 2024, for a five-year term. Malaysia operates a unique constitutional monarchy system, where the hereditary rulers of nine states elect one of their own as the King for a five-year term through rotation. The position is known in Malay as 'Yang di-Pertuan Agong'.
