PM Tarique Rahman mourns death of Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of former Acting President, former Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Language Movement veteran and BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday (July 12), the prime minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
Describing Sircar as a wise, experienced and dedicated statesman, Tarique said he served the nation with integrity, prudence and a strong sense of responsibility throughout his long political career.
He noted that Sircar discharged the duties of Acting President and Speaker of Parliament with distinction and also served in several key government positions, including Minister of Education, State Minister for Land, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, and State Minister for Housing and Public Works.
The prime minister said Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar's contributions to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting parliamentary practices and advancing public welfare would be remembered with profound respect by the nation.
He also said Sircar remained steadfast in his commitment to Bangladeshi nationalism, democracy and the rights of the people throughout his political life, never wavering from his ideals despite prolonged political repression and challenging circumstances.
Tarique further said Sircar's role in the BNP's long struggle against authoritarian rule over the past 17 years would remain a significant chapter in both the party's history and Bangladesh's democratic journey.
He said the country had lost an experienced politician, an accomplished parliamentarian and a devoted patriot, expressing hope that Sircar's integrity, ideals and lifelong public service would continue to inspire future generations.
The prime minister concluded his message by praying for the late leader's forgiveness and eternal peace, and extended his deepest condolences to his family, relatives, colleagues, well-wishers and admirers.
