PM Tarique Rahman releases fish fry into Brahmaputra River in Kishoreganj

Prime Minister Taique Rahman on Sunday (August 16) released fish fry into the Old Brahmaputra River in Pakundia, Kishoreganj, as part of a government programme to boost the country’s fisheries resources.

He joined the fish-release programme around 11:30am at the Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat area of the upazila.

The prime minister left his Gulshan residence in Dhaka for Kishoreganj by road at around 9:15am. Along the route, party activists, women, children and local residents gathered on both sides of the road to welcome him.

Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atikur Rahman Rumon said the prime minister waved to the crowds in response to their greetings.

After the Pakundia programme, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit a carp hatchery complex in Achmita, Kotiyadi, before formally inaugurating National Fisheries Week 2026 and distributing National Fisheries Awards at the Achmita George Institution field.

Later, he is scheduled to visit the historic Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj Sadar around 2:30pm to inaugurate a development project at the grounds and join a tree-planting programme with Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists.

Following lunch and a brief rest at the Circuit House, the prime minister is expected to visit the old stadium in Kishoreganj town around 4pm. He will attend programmes to distribute Family Cards and various grants, as well as provide honorariums to imams, muezzins, khadims and personnel serving different religious institutions.

Extensive preparations have been made across Kishoreganj ahead of the prime minister’s visit. The day’s programmes focus on fisheries development, social assistance, support for religious institutions and environmental conservation.
