Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Bogura on March 10 to formally inaugurate the 'Family Card' distribution programme. This will be his first visit to Bogura since assuming office as head of government.
Local Government Minister Mir Shah Alam shared the information in a brief speech before Jumu'ah prayers at the shrine of Shah Sultan Balkhi (R) in Mahasthangarh, Shibganj upazila, around 1:15 pm on Friday, February 27.
He said the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Bogura on March 10 for the launch of the Family Card programme.
Ward 3 of Shakharaiya union in Bogura Sadar upazila has been selected for the initial pilot programme. Field-level data collection has already begun to identify potential beneficiary families.
Separate district and upazila committees, with the Deputy Commissioner and Sadar Upazila Executive Officer as convenors, have been formed to implement the programme. Additionally, relevant committees have been formed at union and ward levels.
According to concerned sources, each card-holding family will receive Tk 2,500 per month as financial assistance. Women from ultra-poor, poor and low-income families across the country will come under this benefit scheme.
One woman from each family will be registered as the cardholder. All eligible families in a ward are planned to receive Family Cards. The pilot project will run experimentally for four months. Subsequently, initiatives will be taken to expand the programme to every upazila across the country in phases.
