PM Tarique Rahman visits Matarbari Deep-Sea Port projects

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Matarbari on Sunday (August 9) to inspect the deep-sea port, coal-fired power plant and other major development projects in Maheshkhali.

A helicopter carrying the prime minister landed in Matarbari at 10:52am, his Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon confirmed.

The prime minister left his Gulshan residence around 8:50am and reached Tejgaon Airport before departing by helicopter for Matarbari shortly after 9:00am.

During the visit, he is scheduled to inspect the Matarbari deep-sea port, the coal-fired power project and activities of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority.

The prime minister is also scheduled to attend a rehabilitation assistance programme for families affected by the recent floods at the West Bashkhali High School and College ground in Baharchhara union around 12:30pm.

He will then travel to Fatikchhari, where he is scheduled to meet Hefazat-e-Islam chief Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari at Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Uloom Babunagor Madrasa at around 2pm.

Later in the afternoon, the prime minister will visit Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari to pay respects at the grave of the late Shah Ahmad Shafi, the founding amir of Hefazat-e-Islam.

After a brief stop at the Hathazari Dak Bungalow, he is scheduled to attend another rehabilitation assistance programme for flood victims at the Hathazari Government College ground at 5:00pm.

His day-long tour will conclude with an organisational meeting at the Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View hotel at 7:15pm.

According to the prime minister’s press office, Tarique Rahman will travel by helicopter from Dhaka to Matarbari and then use road transport for the remainder of his Chattogram engagements. He is scheduled to leave Shah Amanat International Airport for Dhaka at around 9:30pm.

Tarique Rahman, who has previously visited Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar as BNP chairman, is visiting Maheshkhali, Fatikchhari and Hathazari for the first time as prime minister.
