PM to distribute Independence Award today

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to attend the Independence Award 2026 ceremony ceremony as the chief guest and hand over the awards to the recipients today.

According to the press release, the ceremony will be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka at 4pm on the rescheduled date.

Earlier on April 6, the ceremony has been rescheduled. “Due to unavoidable circumstances, the Independence Award 2026 ceremony has been rescheduled. Instead of April 9, the event will now be held on Thursday (April 16), 2026,” a notice of Cabinet Division said.

The Independence Award is the country’s highest civilian honour, conferred annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to various fields.

The government had decided to confer the Independence Award for 2026 on 15 distinguished individuals and five institutions, including former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, in recognition of their glorious and outstanding contributions at the national level.
