PM to inaugurate canal excavation programme on March 16: Water Resources Minister

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate a canal excavation programme on March 16, Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has announced.

He made this statement after visiting a canal at Balarampur Saha Para in Kaharoal on Sunday afternoon, March 8. He also informed that the programme will be inaugurated from Dinajpur simultaneously across the country.

Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said, "Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's election manifesto stated that if we form the government, we will excavate 20,000 kilometres of rivers, canals and water bodies within five years. According to the decision of the Ministry of Water Resources, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the 12.20-kilometre canal excavation programme at Balarampur Saha Para in Kaharoal on the 16th, through which the canal excavation programme will be inaugurated simultaneously across the country. Through this, we want to create a mass awakening."

The Water Resources Minister further said that Tarique Rahman has chosen this canal in Dinajpur first after being elected Prime Minister.

He also mentioned that after excavating canals across the country, 25 crore trees will be planted.

During the visit, the minister was accompanied by Manjurul Islam, Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-1 constituency; DIG of Rangpur Range Aminul Islam; District Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam; SP Zedan Al Musa; and Faruk Hossain, Executive Engineer of Dinajpur Water Development Board.
