PM to present Bangladesh’s priorities, future vision at UNGA

Prime Minister (PM) Tarique Rahman will present Bangladesh’s national interests, future vision and policy priorities to world leaders during his visit to New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin said.

Speaking to reporters in New York after the prime minister’s arrival, Mahdi said Tarique’s four working days in the United States would include a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings focused on protecting Bangladesh’s interests, strengthening international relations, upholding people’s rights and advancing inclusive development.

Tarique is scheduled to deliver his maiden address to the UN General Assembly on September 24. His speech is expected to outline Bangladesh’s vision for the future and the government’s positions on key national and international issues.

Mahdi described the visit as a significant moment, noting that Tarique is the third member of his family to represent Bangladesh at the UN after his father, Ziaur Rahman, and mother, Khaleda Zia.

The prime minister arrived in New York on Monday evening with his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, and an official delegation. The six-day visit includes two travel days and four working days, with the official delegation comprising 35 members, according to the PMO.

His formal UNGA engagements include a welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the opening session of the General Assembly and a series of high-level diplomatic meetings.

The PMO said updates on his engagements would be provided regularly to the media.
