Tarique Rahman made these remarks on Sunday (April 13) while extending heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all Bangladeshis at home and abroad on the occasion of the Bengali New Year.
He said, “Our culture and heritage are built on a strong foundation rooted deep in the past. It is tradition, culture, and human values that together shape a well-organized nation. Pohela Boishakh stands as a shining symbol of our national identity.”
“Each year,” he continued, “Pohela Boishakh inspires us enlightened by the glories of the past to strive toward a future of progress and excellence. What we need now is to establish a vibrant democracy. To achieve that, we must ensure a sustainable democratic framework based on cultural heritage and tolerance, embracing the coexistence of diverse viewpoints.”
Reflecting on the transition from one year to the next, he said, “Leaving behind the events and misfortunes of 1431, we now stand at the dawn of 1432. Across the world, bloodshed and explosions have cast shadows of unrest. We cannot afford to wait passively for peace solutions must be selfless, not self-serving. Only then can bloodshed be stopped, and peace no longer be a distant hope. We must leave behind the fatigue, despair, and shame of the past and march forward with renewed determination.”
