A workers' march towards the Secretariat demanding the payment of arrears before Eid was thwarted by police.

On Tuesday (March 25), around 12 PM, the workers began their march from the Labor Building towards the Secretariat, and a clash occurred with the police in front of the Press Club.

Eyewitnesses reported that the police set up barricades upon seeing the workers' march. When the workers tried to advance, the police dispersed them by using batons and firing tear gas.

Earlier, the workers had been staging a sit-in in front of the Labor Building for three days, demanding the payment of their dues. When they later marched towards the Secretariat, a clash occurred with the police.

The police stated that when the workers continued throwing bricks and stones, the situation was controlled and they were "dispatched."

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station, Md. Khalid Monsur, said, “The workers threw bricks and stones at the police while staying away from the police barricades. As a result, three of our officers were injured. Within a short time, we controlled the situation and dispatched them. They then dispersed and left.”

Md. Asaduzzaman, the Investigation Officer of Shahbagh Police Station, said, “When they attempted to enter the Secretariat Road, they were stopped according to the regulations. When they threw bricks and stones at the police, the police used tear gas to disperse them and took control of the situation.”
