Police baton charge at Inqilab Mancha event, Views Bangladesh reporter wounded
During a program organized by Inqilab Mancha at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka, clashes erupted between police and demonstrators, during which journalists on duty were also subjected to baton charges. Sudeb Kumar Biswas, a multimedia reporter for VIEWS BANGLADESH, was among those injured.
The incident occurred at Intercontinental Mor around 4pm on Friday. Sudeb Kumar Biswas stated that while covering the ongoing clashes live with several colleagues, he came under the police attack, resulting in injuries to 5–6 journalists.
Eyewitnesses reported that as tensions escalated around the Inqilab Mancha programme, police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters. Journalists present at the scene while gathering news were also caught in the baton charge.
The injured journalists have received initial medical treatment.
Amid clashes during an Inqilsb Mancha programme in Dhaka, the organization claims that its General Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber was shot. An official post on Inqilab Mancha’s Facebook page stated, “Brother Jaber has been shot,” while also alleging police use of force.
According to the group, the incident occurred when demonstrators tried to move past a police barricade toward Jamuna and came into confrontation with law enforcement. During the clash, Abdullah Al Jaber was reportedly injured by gunfire from the police.
The post and Abdullah Al Jaber’s Facebook account also claim that hundreds of protesters were injured, and it called for calm, stating: “After receiving treatment, we will return to the streets for further programs.”
No immediate comment was available from the police regarding the attack on journalists at the scene.
