Police block march towards Jamuna demanding increased 44th BCS posts
Police blocked protesters from marching through Ramna Park toward Jamuna, where they planned to demand an increase in posts for the 44th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exam.
Around 1:30 PM on Monday, demonstrators tried to block the road after exiting Ramna Park via the Arunoday gate. Police quickly dispersed them, citing violations of Section 144.
Ramna Deputy Police Commissioner Masud Alam said the protest was unlawful and those involved were removed from the area.
The protesters said they had repeatedly sought government support without success. “We had no choice but to come to Jamuna. Our backs are against the wall,” they said.
They also pointed out that while the 44th BCS results are due today, nearly 350,000 government posts remain vacant. This shortage is causing delays and inefficiencies in public services and straining law enforcement, ultimately affecting the country’s economy.
The protesters added that previous BCS exams saw increased posts before results were announced, but this time the government has delayed implementation without explanation.
