Police blocks ‘March to Indian High Commission’ protest in Dhaka
Protesters taking part in a ‘March to Indian High Commission’ programme called by the July Oikya platform were stopped by police on Wednesday afternoon (December 17), officials and participants said.
Around 3:30pm, demonstrators set out from Rampura Bridge toward the Indian High Commission, but were blocked by police barricades on Uttar Badda Road, halting the march before it could advance further.
After the police intervention, participants remained at the site and began delivering speeches in place of marching.
Earlier in the day, crowds had gathered at Rampura Bridge, carrying banners and placards and chanting slogans as they prepared to move toward the diplomatic mission.
The blockage also caused temporary traffic disruption in the surrounding area.
