Police charge baton on protesting students at Parliament House
Police have charged baton on students protesting for three demands, including the resignation of the Education Minister, in front of the National Parliament House.
The incident took place in front of the main gate of the National Parliament House around 6:45 pm on Tuesday (July 14). It is reported that several students were injured in the incident.
Earlier, HSC examinees had been protesting and blocking roads in different areas of the capital since the morning. In the afternoon, they reached the National Parliament House area with a procession from Science Lab intersection. Around 6 pm, they took up positions on Manik Mia Avenue and raised various slogans.
While the National Parliament was in session, the students took up positions in front of the Parliament House and raised various slogans, including 'Bhua (Fake, Fake)', demanding the resignation of the Education Minister. At that time, the police first tried to convince the protesting students and remove them from there.
At one stage, when the students tried to enter the Parliament House, the police stopped them. Later, the police started baton charging to bring the situation under control. This caused the students to disperse.
Later, the police chased the students away from the main gate area of the National Assembly towards Asad Gate. It is also reported that some students tried to throw bricks at the police.
The protesting students had earlier announced that the program would continue until their demands were met. Their three-point demands include the resignation of the education minister, re-examination arrangements for candidates affected by the inclement weather, and the postponement of the upcoming exams and publication of a new routine.
