Police clear workers from Mohakhali-Tejgaon road after 7-point demand protest
Police have cleared workers of the NASSA Group who had been blocking the Mohakhali-Tejgaon road in the capital's Tejgaon industrial area demanding unpaid wages and benefits . The protest, which caused severe traffic congestion, was called off around 12:20 pm on Tuesday, June 16.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Tejgaon Division) Ibn-e Mizan confirmed the development. He said the workers were removed after persuasion and are now being taken to the Labour Ministry under police escort.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of workers of NASSA Group, including concerns like Nasa Knit Ltd, Nasa Apparels Ltd and Western Dresses Ltd, began a sit-in on Love Road, also known as Tajuddin Ahmad Road, around 10:00 am . They blocked both sides of the road near the Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, bringing traffic to a standstill in the area . The blockade caused severe congestion on adjoining roads in Mohakhali, Farmgate and Tejgaon, leaving thousands of commuters stranded .
The protesters presented a seven-point charter of demands, which included:
Immediate payment of outstanding wages for May 2026.
Payment of accrued leave allowances for 2025.
Payment of outstanding arrears from December 2025.
Payment of notice pay.
Advance payment of wages and benefits for the next 120 days (four months) in accordance with labour laws.
Full payment of service benefits (100%) for all employees in line with labour laws.
A guarantee that no worker would face harassment, including police cases, threats, or physical and mental abuse during the process of receiving their dues .
Police confirmed that workers were being engaged in talks and discussions were also ongoing with senior management . The situation is now under control, and traffic is gradually returning to normal.
