Police commissioner asks not to play musical instruments while installing gilaf at Shahjalal Shrine
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Commissioner Md. Abdul Quddus Chowdhury has instructed that the no musical instruments should be played during the gilaf installation ceremony on the 707th Urs of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.). He gave this instruction while inspecting the shrine area on Monday (May 4) afternoon.
The SMP Commissioner said, "Gilaf is spread at the shrine on the occasion of Urs. That gilaf comes from Naiorpool point. At this time, various musical instruments including drums are played and devotees bring the gilaf by dancing and singing. As they end up inside the shrine, discipline is broken. Musical instruments can be brought from Naiorpool, but only a small number of people should enter the shrine with the gilaf after completing all the activities in front of the Nur Jahan Hotel before the main entrance. This is a disciplined method and it will be possible to avoid many unwanted incidents."
He said that the police have taken maximum security measures on the occasion of Urs. He also urged everyone to be vigilant and alert about anti-Islamic activities in the shrine area in the name of Urs.
Meanwhile, the commissioner urged devotees coming to Urs to park their vehicles at the MC College grounds and Shahi Eidgah areas instead of at the Alia Madrasa grounds adjacent to the shrine.
He said that this will relieve the city residents from the suffering of traffic jams and devotees will be able to travel to the shrine with ease.
